With a background that combines regulatory, financial and industry experience, Alex is able to assist companies in managing challenging regulatory and supervisory issues, as well as in implementing sound governance and business solutions. He is also available for independent non-executive director roles in financial service companies.

Alex currently serves as a Director on the Boards of ALD Re dac, Unipol Re dac, and Scottish Re dac. He is Chair of the Risk Committee of ALD Re and Chair of the Board of Scottish Re.

When with the PartnerRe organisation, Alex was the Chief Financial Officer for Partner Reinsurance Europe plc, (2007 to 2013). In that role, he was instrumental in the 2007 corporate restructuring which established the head office of the legal entity in Ireland with a global branch network. Following the ParisRe purchase by PartnerRe Ltd, in late 2009 he was instrumental in the subsequent merger of the ParisRe operating entity into the Irish legal entity during 2010.

Alex had a 6-year term with the Central Bank of Ireland, where he participated in the formation of policy, and promoted and protected the interests of Ireland in both EU and international fora.

Notably, he was the Irish representative on the experts working group on Reinsurance Regulation at the European Commission (2001 to 2005) securing significant concessions for Ireland; formulated and managed the approach for the implementation of the reinsurance regulatory regime in Ireland based on the EU Reinsurance Directive (2006); was a Member of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (“IAIS”) Reinsurance Subcommittee which developed the international standard on Reinsurance Supervision (2003); was part of IMF/World Bank FSAP mission to Zambia and performed the insurance sector assessment (2002); and, developed close working relations with both EU and other international supervisory authorities.

For 11 years, Alex served as Chief Financial Officer for Attorneys’ Liability Assurance Society (Bermuda) Ltd (“ALAS”), a mutual organisation and market-leader in U.S. attorneys' professional liability insurance. As one of three initial employees, he assumed management from the third party manager that had administered ALAS from inception. Alex was responsible for all operational aspects including: reporting; planning, analysis and control; financing and investment; actuarial analysis; and reinsurance. As such he was instrumental in setting up operational systems processes and controls from scratch in order to effectively manage the business. This included the design and implementation of loss reserving methodology; developing concentration of credit and volatility analysis which led to the restructuring of the reinsurance program, along with additional security requirements. Alex was also President and a Director of the investment subsidiary and as part of that role developed an asset allocation plan resulting in the introduction of diversified asset classes including International Equities; Global and International Fixed Income; Merger Arbitrage / Distressed Securities.

Alex started his career as a Chartered Accountant, qualifying in New Zealand and working for large practices in New Zealand, Australia, the U.K. and Bermuda; as well as spending time in commercial operations in Australia, the U.K. and the Middle East.

He earned a degree in Commerce & Administration from Victoria University Wellington, is a Chartered Secretary, and has formal qualifications in Insurance, Reinsurance and Risk Management.
